Free Environmental Resources to Check Out

Hello everyone! Today, I am presenting you with 3 of the best free, online resources, or rather, masterlists, to help you live your best eco-friendly life. Keep on reading to see what they are!

Conservation.org is really doing God’s work here. I’m not joking when I say that this is THE masterlist of all masterlists. With 74 (you heard that right) easy-to-implement tips towards sustainable living covering everything from conserving energy and water to helping you contact your elected officials, this list has something for just about everything! And, unlike other basic lists, Conservation has added a few extra special features. My favorite is the filtering system, which allows you to see specific tips for a certain type of action (eliminating plastics, fighting climate change, etc.) or where you would like to perform it (home, commuting, etc.). This way, if you’re not sure where to start, you can use the filters to find the easiest things to do, and then work your way up! Additionally, each of their tips provides additional links to another page on their website for further information / suggestions, so you can be educated and take action to help the environment! It’s truly a win-win in my opinion.

If the first entry was too much for you (I get that!), then you might want to check out the helpful guide prepared by the Nature Conservancy. Originally posted in October 2020, the website has been revised over the years to reflect only the most pressing issues we face today (that’s not to say there are issues that are less pressing, as all are equally important, but some, like climate change, deserve immediate attention), and break down the process of how we as individuals can do our part for the planet. Helpfully separated into different issues threatening the environment with supplemental actions designed for each one, this guide is extremely user-friendly and just as digestible. And, as usual, there are plenty of supplemental resources for a positive user experience. Sort of unrelated, but Nature also offers a Nature Newsletter that you should definitely sign up for if you’re looking for the immediate scoop in the world of environmentalism.

If you’ve ever woken up and thought to yourself, “Gee, I should really start reducing the waste my house generates on a daily basis but I don’t know where to begin,” then today is the day you change that mentality! If you’ll remember, sometime ago I posted a list of the best books to read if you’re at all interested in the environment, and one of the entries in that very list was “Zero Waste Home” by Bea Johnson, which, as the name suggests, helps you live a zero-waste life. If you don’t want to pay for the book, don’t worry, you’re still in luck, because Johnson has so graciously given us her zero-waste master list for free! The list has over 100 tips to turn every room of your home sustainable so that you too can generate a pint-size jar of trash per year like Johnson’s family of 4! From your closet to the garden, this list has got you covered! What I like especially is that it features a good mix of simple practices you can change with the things you already have / DIYs (like alternative recipes for cleaning supplies) and eco-friendly product swaps, the best of which are helpfully linked for readers. Going past the list itself, Johnson’s website is a treasure trove as well - her blog and videos are amazing!

Well, that’s all for today! Hopefully you check out these amazing resources - they’ll really turn your life around for the good if you let them. Let me know if you do, and I’ll see you all soon!
